What is VAC Therapy?

March 9, 2009

VAC (Vacuum Assisted Closure) therapy is an advanced technique that helps large or chronic wounds heal. During therapy, the wound is sealed with foam dressing and tape through which a drainage tube is threaded. The tube is then connected to a vacuum, which creates negative pressure on the wound. This helps decrease
the volume of the wound, remove excess fluids, decrease bacterial colonization and promote granulation, which is the development of tissue that has a rich, healing blood supply.
