Welcome to the fall issue of HealthScope. This time of year is marked by major cancer and diabetes awareness months, two medical concerns that Floyd Memorial works hard to provide a supportive, forward-thinking model of care to both prevent and treat. In fact, under the leadership of expert medical teams, both the Cancer Center of Indiana and the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate participate in cutting-edge research projects, develop and teach innovative educational programs to improve our patients’ lifestyles and provide support to those living with the condition as well as their caregiver. In this issue you will read an amazing success story about one of our young Joslin Center patients. His dreams to compete as a swimmer in the Down Syndrome Olympic Championships in Portugal are coming true. This is such an uplifting story and I am so happy we could share it with you.
You will also learn about some new services that are unfolding at the hospital including an expanded Wound Healing Center and the addition of a new neurosurgeon to our active medical staff. I also encourage you to take a look at the classes and events that are planned for September and October. From For Women Only events to our annual prostate cancer screening to prenatal classes, we offer educational classes that will help keep your entire family healthy. On a final note, I want to share our second quarter Patient Satisfaction scores. We can plan, implement and construct all we want but the success of our hospital is dependent upon the satisfaction and happiness of our patients. These exemplary scores prove to us that we are moving in the right direction for both our current patients and those who might be visiting us in the near future.
