Surgical In-Patient Unit Has Special Features for Post-Op Patients

May 7, 2009

Quietly tucked away on the fourth floor above the Heart and Vascular Center is a 32-bed unit made up of private rooms, all with beautiful and relaxing views of the Knobs. The unit, which opened in May 2008, has been specifically designed for patients following surgery and provides outstanding inpatient services such as:

• Care provided by a team of experts consisting of a surgical nurse, an aide, a charge nurse and a  supervisor, as well as a physical therapist for orthopedic patients, and case managers to help with discharge planning.
• Eight state-of-the-art telemetry beds that allow patients’ heart rhythms to be monitored at the nurse’s station around the clock. This makes it possible for the patient to remain in one room for the duration of their recuperation.
• By eliminating the need to move the patient in and out of the room for monitoring, the same group of nurses can care for patients throughout their recovery, which results in excellent continuity of care.
