Floyd Memorial Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate Endocrinologists Receive National Recognition

Floyd Memorial Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate Endocrinologists Vasti Broadstone, MD, Sri Mokshagundam, MD and Vasdev Lohano, MD, recently received recognition from the Diabetes Recognition Program (DRP) for providing top quality care to patients with diabetes. The DRP is a product of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and aims to improve the quality of care that patients with diabetes receive by recognizing top-performing clinicians.

Floyd Memorial Physicians and Nurse voted “Best in Floyd County”

Two Floyd Memorial physicians and one nurse were recently voted “Best in Floyd County” during The Tribune newspaper’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Sean Kellihan, RN, Intensive Care Unit, was named the “Best Nurse in Floyd County,” and Phillip Johnson, MD, family practice physician with Physicians Associates of Floyds Knobs, was named “Best Doctor in Floyd County.” Family Practice physician Robert Receveur, MD, was also named as a runner-up.

Cancer Center of Indiana Medical Director Elected President of Indiana Oncology Society

Naveed Chowhan, MD, medical oncologist/ hematologist and medical director of the Floyd Memorial Cancer Center of Indiana, recently began a two-year term as president of the Indiana Oncology Society (IOS). The IOS is a member organization whose mission is to “provide advocacy for cancer patients and promote standards of excellence for high-quality cancer care,” and is affiliated with the Association of Community Cancer Centers and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

As president of the society, Dr. Chowhan will be responsible for overseeing an eight-member board and upholding the interests of the IOS. Dr. Chowhan has practiced medical oncology and hematology at the Cancer Center of Indiana since 1994. He is board certified in oncology, hematology and internal medicine. He has also received training in bone marrow transplantation and is certified in medical acupuncture.

Two Floyd Memorial Physicians Named to Positions With the Indiana State Medical Association

The Indiana State Medical Association recently named two Floyd Memorial physicians, Stephen Baldwin, MD and Deepak Azad, MD, MPH, to positions.

Dr. Baldwin, an OB-GYN with OB-GYN Associates of Southern Indiana, will serve a three-year term as an alternate on the Indiana State Medical Association Board of Trustees. He will represent the third district, which includes Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Lawrence, Orange, Scott and Washington counties. Dr. Azad, an internal medicine and occupational medicine specialist in Scottsburg, was elected to his fourth one-year term as treasurer of the Indiana State Medical Association.

Floyd Memorial Pathologist Honored by IU Southeast

Floyd Memorial Pathologist David Stapp, MD, was recently awarded the 2010 Alumnus of the Year Award from the Indiana University Southeast School of Natural Sciences. Dr. Stapp currently serves on the School of Natural Sciences Board of Advisors and was selected by the board for his achievements.

2011 Chief of Staff and Vice Chief of Staff

Stephen Baldwin, MD, will act as Floyd Memorial’s 2011 chief of staff, with John Crase, MD, serving as vice chief of staff. Dr. Baldwin is an OB-GYN with OB-GYN Associates of Southern Indiana in New Albany, while Dr. Crase is a family medicine physician with Family Physicians of Southern Indiana in New Albany.
