“It’s very important to start working to help patients regain mobility as soon as possible. Essentially, the sooner we can get them up and moving, the faster the recovery process can begin,” said Kay Vannoy, PT, Physical Therapy supervisor. “Physical Therapy is an integral component to the overall outcome for patients who have undergone a hip replacement surgery. It helps reduce possible complications such as weakening
of muscles, blood clots and pneumonia. We start working with them right away to help regain their range of motion and keep muscles from contracting. Each patient gets the advantage of a physical therapy plan that is custom-tailored to meet his or her particular needs in the hospital and after they leave. After patients leave the
hospital, they can continue to receive outpatient therapy as well. The more they put into their post-op therapy, the better the results will be.”
