Floyd Memorial Brings Home Another Great Report Card

May 7, 2009

HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent healthcare ratings organization, has once again honored Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services with a ranking among the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for clinical excellence. The hospital received additional recognition in cardiac, orthopedic, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, critical care and general surgery services. Of course we are proud of these awards. But what is even more important is what these awards say about the level of care we make available to our patients and to our community.

“The Floyd Memorial Heart and Vascular Center has only been open for about three years so it’s remarkable that we’re already receiving top Health-Grades awards for such a broad spectrum of cardiac services.
This program’s success is a tribute to an  infrastructure made up of extremely dedicated doctors, nurses, therapists, techs and administrators.”

“One of the unique things we have is a nurse practitioner, Marla Estes, ARNP, as part of our program and as a liaison between the cardiothoracic operating rooms and everyone else involved. That is a testament to the excellent planning and staffing on the part of an administration that keeps its finger on the pulse of the hospital and remains responsible to patients and personnel. Marla’s presence, skills, knowledge and her ability to function like an air traffic controller at times, make her critically important to the patient, the family and the surgical team.”

“In addition to the latest technology and state-ofthe-art facilities, one of the biggest things that sets this hospital apart is that its people all seem to feel a real connection with each other and with patients. They smile and say hello. And that familiar face, or a few kind words can be the personal touch that makes such an important difference to a very ill patient, a worried family member, or someone who is facing a health problem alone.”

“That feeling of warmth and caring that permeates every brick and fiber of this building and wraps itself around every living soul who enters the hospital doors is real. It’s a big part of what makes Floyd Memorial such a special place.”

“I came to Floyd Memorial long before we had the capability to perform open heart surgeries here and I was grateful to have the opportunity to work at the new Heart and Vascular Center. It is home to Southern Indiana’s first open heart surgery program. The center features two state-of-the-art cardiac surgical suites, two cardiac catheterization labs, an outpatient cardiac care unit, an inpatient cardiovascular care unit, and a comprehensive cardiac rehab facility. And now, we also have the Heart Failure Outpatient Clinic.”

“We offer the full spectrum of cardiac services, from non-invasive diagnostic testing to some of the most sophisticated surgeries. But, the goal at Floyd Memorial continues to be a very warm, comfortable, caring atmosphere.” “One of the most significant changes I’ve seen in the last 25 years in heart surgery is our ability to treat people who are more seriously ill. We have the facilities, technology, skills and staff to provide exceptional care to those who need it most. I am pleased and proud to be part of the team at Floyd Memorial’s Heart and Vascular Center.”
