A message from Mark Shugarman

November 6, 2008

At publication time of this issue, the presidential election had not occurred, but whatever the outcome, I hope you took advantage of your freedom to cast your vote for our new president. As with any new presidency, we are going to see some changes and I’m sure that the topic of healthcare will be discussed often. My hope is that as a country, we can address some of the key issues surrounding healthcare including the rising number of citizens who do not have access to medical insurance. As changes occur in healthcare policy that will affect our area, I will do my best to keep you informed.

In our last issue of HealthScope for 2008, we have highlighted a group of physicians whose specialty is you – primary care physicians. The article outlines reasons why it is important to have a physician who knows your health history thoroughly and can manage your overall care. If you don’t have a physician, we would like to help you find one so you can start building a relationship with him or her before you actually need them due to illness. You can call our toll-free line at 1-800-476-8723 for a free physician referral or search our online physician directory at www.floydmemorial.com.

In addition, you will get a sneak peek at our renovated Women’s Center including all the new attributes of the unit. Watch for more information on a public open house where you can tour the new area. Speaking of open houses, we are going to be holding one for our newly-relocated Wound Healing Center on Monday, November 24 from 4 – 6:30 p.m. See pages 6 and 7 for more information.

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a healthy and happy holiday season.
