It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the May/June issue of HealthScope. As the new President and CEO of Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, I hope you find our publication to be interesting and useful. I know I have enjoyed reading it as I get acquainted with the hospital and the community. In each issue we strive to provide you with reliable health and medical information on a variety of diseases and chronic conditions as well as the prevention and treatment options available from Floyd Memorial’s large network of outstanding physicians. In this issue you will learn how to protect yourself and loved ones against colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the nation. The feature will introduce you to some of the latest treatment protocols available including surgical, chemotherapy and radiation options. You will also read about the advanced stroke care available at Floyd Memorial and the importance of seeking medical care immediately at the onset of symptoms. This section is complemented with information about our screening programs for heart and stroke as well as vascular conditions. Screenings are one of the best ways you can protect yourself and take control of your health. You will also see photos of our new Surgical Inpatient Unit that opened on Tuesday, May 6 on the fourth floor above the hospital’s Heart & Vascular Center. Our surgery patients will be able to recuperate in all-private rooms with the latest monitoring equipment and an experienced team of medical professionals who are specifically trained in post-operative care. As I move forward in my new role with the hospital, I look forward to becoming an active member of the community and having the opportunity to meet many of you face to face. I would welcome any thoughts or concerns you might have about Floyd Memorial and how we can continue to meet, or better yet, exceed your expectations as your healthcare provider. Feel free to call my office anytime at 812-949-5500. I hope your summer starts off in a safe and healthy way.
