Training Course Objectives
Medical examiners offering Commercial Drivers License (CDL) physicals will be required to complete certification training and achieve certification beginning May 14, 2014. At the conclusion of this training program, participants eligible for certification should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of FMCSA physical qualification requirements and the demands of commercial driving, driver tasks and the work environment.
- Perform driver certification examinations in accordance with FMCSA physical qualification requirements and medical guidelines.
- Apply knowledge of FMCSA’s driver physical qualifcations standards and advisory criteria to findings gathered during the driver’s medical exam to make sound determinations of the driver’s medical and physical qualifcations for safely operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in terstate commerce.
About the Speaker:
Andrew Morton, MD, attended medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine and completed residency training in family medicine at the Naval Hospital Pensacola. He practices at Floyd Memorial Medical Group-Harrison Family Medicine in Corydon, Indiana.
He is currently the medical director for the Lanesville, Indiana Volunteer Fire Department, assistant medical director at Corydon Nursing & Rehab, and head health officer for Harrison County, Indiana.
Dr. Morton received his CDL trainer certification in November 2013.
