Q: What is a family doctor?

A:A family doctor is a doctor who takes care of the whole family. Family doctors create caring relationships with patients and their families. They know their patients because they listen to them and help them make the right health care decisions.Family doctors take care of the physical, mental and emotional health of both their patients and their patient’s families. They know your family’s health history and how it can affect you because they may care for three generations of a family. They are trained to care for you through all the stages of your life.Family doctors are trained in all areas of medicine. They can diagnose and treat the full range of problems people usually bring to their doctors. They know when to treat you, and, if necessary, when to bring in another specialist you can trust.
Q: Can you serve as primary care providers for children as well as adults?
A: Yes! Our Family Physicians, board certified in Family Practice, are qualified to deliver comprehensive care, regardless of age, sex, organ system or type of problem, be it biological, behavioral or social. You can rely on us for trusted medical care from birth through adulthood.
Q: I don’t have any health problems. Why do I need a family doctor?
A: Family doctors are specially trained in preventive medicine. They believe that preventing a health problem is better than having to overcome one. They help you make the right health choices to keep you and your family healthy.
Q: What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A:Nurse Practitioners have advanced education (most have master’s degrees and many have doctorates) and advanced clinical training beyond their initial registered nurse preparation. Among their many services, Nurse Practitioners:

  • Order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions
  • Prescribe medications and other treatments
  • Manage a patient’s care
Q: What if I have questions after hours?
A: If you have an urgent problem you may call our office (812-738-4155) and there will be a message telling you who is taking call for the evening. We prefer that you call during normal business hours for questions about prescriptions refills, appointments, billing and other questions of non-urgent nature.
Q: Are you accepting new patients?
A: Yes. We welcome the opportunity to build new health partnerships with all patients in the community.
Q: How long does it take to get an appointment?
A: Calling our office at the first sign of illness helps to insure that you receive an appointment time sooner rather than later. Normally, we are able to schedule same-day appointments for those requiring urgent care.
Q: In order to see a specialist, do I need a referral from my primary care physician at Harrison Family Medicine?
A: To determine whether you need a referral from us before seeing a medical specialist, please view the terms of your insurance plan. Often, this information is listed on your insurance card or can be obtained by calling your insurance company. Our medical providers can refer you to a specialist if your health situation requires it or if your health insurance company requires a referral prior to visiting a specialist. An office visit may be required to obtain the referral.
Q: How long does it take to refill my prescription?
A: Please allow 24-48 hours. Some medications require prior authorizations and this may delay your refill.
Q: What should I bring to my appointment?
A: You should bring your insurance card, a photo ID, a list of your allergies and current medications.
Q: Where is your office located?
A: We are located at 313 Federal Drive, Suite 200 in the Northfield Plaza building. We are behind Culver’s restaurant in Corydon, across from the Farm Bureau Insurance office.
Q: When should I receive my lab results?
A: You will be notified immediately of any critical lab results. Otherwise, you will hear from us by phone within 24 to 48 hours of your appointment. If you have not heard from us within two days, please call 812-738-4155 and leave a voice message for your physician’s assistant and someone will call you.
Q: Will you take care of me in the hospital?
A: Most likely, yes. We admit our patients to Harrison County Hospital. If the patient requires more extensive care, we have relationships with the area physicians and can transfer our patients to the appropriate hospital. The subspecialty doctors communicate with us about admissions and discharges, send us copies of notes, and have access to our records.

Q:What is a Patient Portal?

A: The patient portal at Floyd Memorial Medical Group allows for better communication with your physician’s office by providing convenient 24/7 access from the comfort and privacy of your own home.  Your physician’s office will provide you with a PIN number, which will enable you to register to use this service.  Once you sign up, you will be able to access and update your medical record, access lab and diagnostic exam results, communicate securely and confidentially with your physician, pay your bill online and request an appointment.
