Massage therapy has proven to be effective in improving blood pressure, respiration and pulse rates. It also reduces the perception of pain. For cancer patients, it has also been shown to stimulate the lymphatic system, helping the body fight off infection, reduce muscle tension, pain, fatigue and nausea.
The Therapeutic Massage Program, originally offered exclusively to breast cancer patients, has been so successful, it is now available to all cancer patients who are receiving treatment at Floyd Memorial Hospital and the Cancer Center of Indiana.
This service is available two days a week at the Cancer Center of Indiana, and two days a week at Floyd Memorial on the Medical Inpatient Unit.
