According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes is a disease that affects 25.6 million Americans over the age of 20, over 11 percent of the population. In an effort to combat the diabetes epidemic, the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Floyd Memorial Hospital continues to focus on education and behavior modification for lifelong management, while also providing top quality medical care for those with the disease.
On Saturday, March 8, from 8 a.m. to Noon, the center will host its annual “Diabetes Update” event at the Floyd Memorial Hospital Paris Health Education Center. Registration and a light breakfast open at 7:30 a.m., and the program begins at 8 a.m.
This event is free to the public and includes a variety of topics focusing on long term diabetes management and good health:
- Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate Endocrinologist, Sri Prakash Mokshagundam, MD, will discuss the link between diabetes and heart disease, and what patients can do to lessen their risk.
- A fellow diabetes patient who has successfully gotten their A1C under control will offer their successful tips and tricks.
- Attendees will learn about the latest diabetes research being done at the University of Louisville from the researchers themselves.
- In addition, a variety of diabetes-related vendors will be on hand with informational booths and free giveaways.
