What: Free Diabetes Update Seminar.  Learn about new diabetes medications, hear tips and tricks from a fellow diabetes patient who has successfully gotten their hemoglobin A1C under control, participate in a question and answer session with a panel of registered dietitians who specialize in diabetes care, and hear from the YMCA on diabetes-specific exercise programs they have to offer. Enjoy a complimentary breakfast, informative vendor booths, giveaways and great door prizes!

According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes is a disease that affects 25.8 million Americans, nearly 10 percent of the population.  In an effort to combat the diabetes epidemic, the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Floyd Memorial Hospital continues work to combat the diabetes epidemic with a focus on education and behavior modification, while also providing top quality medical care for those with the disease.

On Saturday, March 9, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., the center will host its annual “Diabetes Update” event in the Floyd Memorial Cancer Center of Indiana’s lower level conference room.  The cancer center is located at 2210 Green Valley Road in New Albany, just down the street from the Floyd Memorial.  Registration and a light breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m.  The program is free to the public and includes a variety of topics focusing on daily care for those with diabetes.  Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate Endocrinologist, Vasdev Lohano, MD, will discuss new diabetes medications, and there will be a question and answer session with a panel of registered dietitians who specialize in diabetes care. Learn tips and tricks from a diabetes patient who has successfully gotten their hemoglobin A1C under control, and learn about diabetes-specific exercise programs that the YMCA has to offer.  In addition, a variety of diabetes-related vendors will be on hand with informational booths and free giveaways. Registration is required.
