Floyd Memorial Orthopedic Group surgeon Aniefiok Uyoe, MD, recently presented on the minimally invasive anterior approach for hip replacement surgery at the National Medical Association (NMA) Annual Conference in Washington, DC on Monday, July 25.
The NMA is the oldest national professional and scientific organization that represents the collective voice of over 30,000 African American physicians and the patients they serve. Dr. Uyoe was selected by the NMA to present at the conference because of his expertise on the groundbreaking anterior approach to hip replacement surgery.
According to Dr. Uyoe, “The anterior, or front, approach to hip replacement is muscle-sparing. The surgeon can take advantage of the natural muscle planes and avoid cutting them. That makes recovery much faster and less painful. Patients can get back to activities like driving quickly.”
