May 17, 2011

Lung cancer continues to take more lives than any other form of cancer. Because early diagnosis is key, Floyd Memorial’s Diagnostic Imaging Center is encouraging consumers to discover their risk for lung cancer by having a lung cancer screening. The screenings cost is $175 and includes same-day results. Screenings are by appointment only which can be scheduled by calling 812-949-5570.

The screening is quick and painless and utilizes computed tomography (CT) technology. The CT screening helps to detect lung cancer nodules at the earliest detectable stages. A physician order is not required so screenings can be physician or patient scheduled.

The following candidates are consider high-risk and should consider being screened. The screening has shown to reduce lung cancer deaths by as much as 20 percent in these high-risk populations.

  • Age 50 or older with a history of smoking
  • Family history of lung cancer
  • Exposed to second-hand smoke
  • Exposed to asbestos or chemicals
  • Continuous coughing, wheezing or shortness of breath.
