Floyd Memorial Hospital’s Green Team is Reducing Carbon Footprint

As the world celebrates Earth Day on April 22, the Floyd Memorial Hospital Green Team would like to let the local community know about our many efforts to create a healthier environment in Kentuckiana. Below is a brief snapshot of 2010 statistics from just a few of our many earth-friendly initiatives.

Switch from Disposable to Reusable Sharps Containers

Pounds of plastic kept out of landfills: 20,549 (10 tons)

Pounds of cardboard kept out of landfills: 1,246

Pounds of CO2 emissions prevented: 12,089 (6 tons)

Hospital-Wide Recycling Program

Pounds of corrugated cardboard recycled: 159,860 lbs (80 tons)

Pounds of construction material recycled: 66,000 (33 tons)

Pounds of paper and plastic recycled: 42,000 (21 tons)

Pounds of aluminum cans recycled: 1,109 (36,601 cans)

Pounds of printer cartridges recycled: 2,425 (1 ton)

Pounds of electronics recycled: 35,168 (18 tons)

Installed energy efficient reflective “white” roof on 4th floor of original hospital building

Converted to low-e digital energy management system, which saves up to 50% on energy consumption
