Horseshoe Foundation Designates Grant to Benefit

June 29, 2010

Floyd Memorial’s Cancer Center of Indiana recently received a $5,000 grant for the Horseshoe Foundation to fund massage therapy for Floyd County residents who are receiving treatment as an inpatient at Floyd Memorial Hospital or outpatient care at the Cancer Center of Indiana.

Massage therapy is effective in improving blood pressure, respiration and pulse rate. For cancer patients, it has been shown to stimulate the lymphatic system, helping the body fight off infection, reduce muscle tension, pain, fatigue and nausea. This grant allows patients to receive the benefits of therapeutic massage at no cost to the patient.

The Cancer Center of Indiana is located at 2210 Green Valley Road. The Center provides a comprehensive approach to cancer treatment by offering both medical and radiation oncology in one convenient location. Along with using a combination of both traditional and alternative cancer treatments, the Center offers a complete array of diagnostic and treatment technology including an onsite PET/CT Scan.
