Free Total Joint Replacement Seminar Scheduled for April 27

April 7, 2010

Floyd Memorial’s total joint replacement program recently received the Blue Distinction® from Blue Cross and Blue Shield for expertise and quality care. The goal of this designation is to help consumers find the highest level of healthcare available at facilities that demonstrate outstanding patient outcomes, while encouraging medical professionals to continue to improve the overall quality of care nationwide.

To receive the designation, healthcare facilities must meet rigorous, evidence-based criteria established by physicians and medical organizations. The areas reviewed include patient results, treatment expertise, number of procedures performed, structure of the program and the usage of evidence-based practices for quality outcomes.

“These types of distinctions are what separate Floyd Memorial from its competitors,” said Carol Mullen, chief quality and patient safety officer. “Receiving this recognition reflects a lot of time and effort, and every physician, department, and staff member involved should be recognized for working as a team to successfully achieve this designation.”

Floyd Memorial hosts free Total Joint Replacement Seminars to educate potential patients on the surgical process from pre-op to post-op. The next seminar will be held on Tuesday, April 27 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the hospital’s Paris Health Education Center. The seminar will include the expertise of Orthopedic Surgeon Edward Bell, M.D., and an orthopedic nurse and physical therapist from Floyd Memorial. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-800-4-SOURCE (1-800-476-8723) or visiting us online at www.floydmemorial.com.
