Osteoporosis pDXA screening of the heel is offered by Floyd Memorial’s Women’s Imaging Center by appointment only. The cost is $20. For an appointment, call Centralized Scheduling at 812-949-5570.

Floyd Memorial’s Healthier Community Initiative offers free Car Seat Fittings on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.Have your seat checked by certified car seat technicians. Each check takes about 45 minutes to one hour. Parents should bring their car seat and child along with the vehicle and car seat instruction manuals. For an appointment, call 812-949-5513.

Free Take 2 for Heart and Stroke screening is offered by appointment monthly. The screening includes full lipid cholesterol panel, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index and a one-on-one consultation with a nurse. Because it will take at least six months for the results of lifestyle changes to show up in future screenings, participants who receive abnormal results must wait at least six months before scheduling another screening. Those with normal results can be screened on an annual basis.

Floyd Memorial’s Heart and Vascular Center offers Vascular Screenings  every Tuesday and Thursday by appointment. Non-invasive screenings are available for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Peripheral Artery Disease and Carotid Artery Disease and are conducted in the Vascular Lab located in Floyd Memorial’s Heart and Vascular Center. The cost is $40 per screening or $100 for all three (cash, check or credit card accepted).

 Floyd Memorial’s Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate offers Balance and Control, a program designed for individuals looking to get their diabetes under control, new to diabetes or new to insulin. Covered by most insurance plans. For more information, call 812-949-5700.

The Diabetes Refresher Course, a program sponsored by the Floyd Memorial Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate, helps patients set goals for healthy management of their diabetes. Highlights include: what’s new in diabetes; understanding the numbers; counting carbohydrates; latest treatment options; evaluating old goals and setting new ones. Covered by most insurance plans. If you want to lose anywhere from 10 to 100 pounds, Floyd Memorial’s Weight Management Center can help. Free HMR informational seminars are held on Mondays and Wednesdays. Call 812-949-7151 for times. The program offers several diet options including a medically supervised plan, a moderate diet option and an at-home program.

Floyd Memorial’s Volunteer Services offers a Free Blood Pressure Screening, 1:30 – 3 p.m. every other Friday in the Main Lobby. Upcoming screenings will be held Fridays, April 1, 15 and 29. Pre-registration is not required.

Gastric Banding informational seminars are sponsored by Floyd Memorial’s Weight Management Center. Upcoming seminars will be held on Tuesday, April 6 at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Paris Health Education Center and on Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. at the Cancer Center of Indiana located at 2210 Green Valley Road in New Albany.

Floyd Memorial’s Healthier Community Initiative will offer Going Green the Healthy Way on Wednesday, April 7 from 7 to 8 p.m. Come learn basic tips and tricks and money saving ideas for going green.  Join Rebecca Didelot, RN, community educator in the Organizational and Community Development Department, to learn how to make you and your loved ones a little healthier the green way.  All participants will be registered to win a free “green gift.”

A Drive-Thru Medication Toss is held the 2nd Thursday of each month at Floyd Memorial’s GreenValley Entrance. The next toss will be on Thursday, April 8 from 2 to 3 p.m. Expired medications, unused medications including bulk or loose tablets and capsules will be accepted. Please do not bring needles. This event is sponsored by Floyd Memorial, Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, Floyd County Solid Waste District and Southern Indiana Triad. Registration is not required.

If you have pre-diabetes, or are overweight and 45 or older, you are at high risk of developing type-2 diabetes. Floyd Memorial’s Joslin Diabetes Center’s Pre-Diabetes Class will be held on Friday, April 9 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. The class is designed to help participants determine what changes are needed, and set goals for living healthier. Look Good…Feel Better is an American Cancer Society class held at the Cancer Center of Indiana on Monday, April 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The class provides volunteer cosmetologists who teach women who are battling cancer make-up techniques and ways to disguise hair loss. Registration deadline is Thursday, April 8.

Conservative Management of Spinal Function will be held on Monday, April 22, 6:30 p.m. at the Cancer Center of Indiana located at 2210 Green Valley Road. Sponsored by Floyd Memorial’s new Spine Center, the seminar will offer the expertise of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician, Rodney Chou, M.D., who will discuss common spine disorders, signs and symptoms and treatment options.

Floyd Memorial’s Women’s Center will host their annual Baby Fair on Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to Noon. If you are wondering what you will need to do before the baby arrives, then let Floyd Memorial help.  Floyd Memorial’s Paris Health Education Center will be filled with baby specialty stores and services, physicians who deliver at Floyd Memorial, pediatricians and much more. Pre-registration is not required.

Floyd Memorial will host a free Total Joint Replacement Seminar on Tuesday, April 27 from 6 to 7 p.m. in its Paris Health Education Center. Is knee or hip pain slowing you down? Attend our free seminar to learn about advanced treatments that may offer dramatic relief of your knee and hip pain. A Floyd Memorial orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist and nurse will discuss medications, exercise and total joint replacement surgery.
