Diabetes is a disease that affects over 21 million Americans, approximately seven percent of the U.S. population, according to the American Diabetes Association. The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services aims to educate the public about diabetes and pre-diabetes, as well as provide quality care for those with the disease.
The center will host its annual Diabetes Update on Saturday, March 13, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Floyd Memorial’s Paris Health Education Center. Registration and light breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m. The program is free to the public and includes a variety of topics focusing on daily care for those with diabetes. Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate Endocrinologist Vasti Broadstone, MD, will discuss the effect of diabetes on sexual health, Amy Brown, RD, CDE, CES, will help participants make the most of their exercise program, and Jeanette Lindell, CCS Medical, will help patients understand insurance coverage of their diabetes supplies.
In addition, a plethora of information on the treatment and prevention of diabetes, as well as resources to help cope with and manage the disease, will be available. “We are excited to be able to provide a wide range of topics this year to address issues that affect the daily life of people with diabetes,” said Amy Brown, diabetes educator at Floyd Memorial’s Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate. “Advancements are continually being made in the field and the Diabetes Update gives our community an opportunity to learn about the newest developments and guidelines from medical experts.”
Registration is required. If you would like to attend the Diabetes Update, please call 1-800-4-SOURCE (1-800-476-8723) or sign up at www.floydmemorial.com/events.
