Floyd Memorial Receives Grant to Provide Specialized Training on Domestic Violence Identification

New Albany, Ind – August 12, 2009 – Floyd Memorial Hospital received a $2,000 grant from Target to provide specialized training on identifying domestic violence victims in its EmergencyCenter and additional support for its Social Services Department.

Due to the difficult economic time, many families are experiencing increased levels of stress. Studies have shown that high stress levels have been linked to an increase in domestic violence. While 30 percent of Americans say they know a woman who has been physically abused by her husband or boyfriend in the past year it is important to remember that domestic violence is not gender specific.

This grant will allow Floyd Memorial to train it Emergency Center staff on a screening protocol to identify domestic violence victims allowing the hospital’s Social Services Department to intervene earlier with assistance and information. Additionally, the grant will be used to develop informational packets on domestic violence and local resources as well as the impact of domestic violence on children.
