Naveen Devabhaktuni, MD

Board Certified Cardiologist
Cardiovascular Associates of Southern Indiana

Dr. Devabhaktuni, who most patients call Dr. Dev, is a board certified cardiologist at the Charlestown Cardiovascular Center. As he explained, “We care for new heart patients here as well as those who need follow-up care. We provide cardiovascular diagnostic procedures such as EKG’s, Holter monitoring, treadmill stress testing, nuclear stress tests, echocardiograms and more – just about any non-invasive testing patients might need.” Patients who need invasive testing or care are referred to Floyd Memorial.

“Patients here can also receive vascular screenings,” said Dr. Dev. “They are simple, non-invasive screenings that can detect such problems as blood clots in the legs, peripheral artery disease (blockage of arteries in the lower extremities) and carotid artery disease (blockage in an artery in the neck) before they lead to a health crisis such as a stroke or pulmonary embolus. This is the only practice in the area that provides these services on an outpatient basis. We are happy to be able to offer them in such a convenient setting.”

For information, an appointment, or to schedule a vascular screening, please call 812-256-3589.

Mazen M. Ibrahim, MD

Family Practice
Floyd Memorial Medical Group

Dr. Ibrahim began practicing in Charlestown in 1979. He is still working with the same office manager with whom he set up his original practice. “We are very proud of the continuity of care that we offer our patients, many of whom have been with us since we first came to Charlestown,” said Dr. Ibrahim. “I know just about everyone in town and am pleased to be able to serve so many of the individuals and families here.”

Dr. Ibrahim focuses on pain management and family practice. “Chronic pain is a serious problem and we work with patients to help relieve that pain so they can enjoy a better quality of life,” he said. “In the family practice area, I see patients who are 12 years of age and older. We treat a wide range of illnesses, doing the work ups needed to provide an accurate diagnosis and the treatment patients need. Preventive care is an area that’s very important to me. One of my primary goals is to help my patients improve and maintain their health on a long-term basis.”

Joseph H. Beaven, MD

Internal Medicine

Dr. Beaven is a specialist in internal medicine. “I see patients with multiple health problems including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, asthma, COPD, stomach and bowel disease and osteoporosis,” he explained. “Our diagnostic services include physical examinations and evaluations, blood work, EKG and Holter monitor, pulmonary function testing, diabetic HgbA1C and more.” According to Dr. Beaven, “One of the services we offer is a bone density scanner which evaluates the lateral spine for osteoporosis. It is a very fast, painless test that measures the density of bones and helps us see whether a patient has osteoporosis or is at risk of developing it. If we find a problem, there are several options we can use to begin treating the patients to help prevent broken bones caused by the disease.”

Dr. Beaven’s practice also brings patients the services of a skilled nurse practitioner, Catherine Coomer, ARNP, whose focus is on primary care and disease prevention. “Prevention, early detection and treatment are our main priorities, in order to keep our patients healthy.”
